"The American Spirit Parade returns for 2011"

Posted on the American Spirit Web Site...

"Come out and support the American Spirit Parade on Saturday, April 30 at 1pm in downtown Lancaster. Once again this parade celebration date is set to honor our brave military personnel, veterans and first responders. Thanks for your support!"

After the lack of funding and support from Lancaster Mayor Rick Gray in 2010, the American Spirit Parade will return for 2011. Thanks to an unknown donor who is helping to support this years parade. In 2010 Lancaster Mayor Rick Gray sought a fee of $5,000 for overtime pay for city police officers who would be posted at intersections along the parade route. The fee also would pay for city public works employees who would sweep the streets after the parade.

My take is the Mayor didn't see the benefit of bringing people to the city where they would park their cars in the city garage and spend their money at stores and eating places in the downtown business district which has gone downhill over the years.

In the past the parade has been very nice and had a great turnout, I'm hoping this year will be even better for such a great cause!
